Advanced Installations
When replacing your current legacy mail slot with a Draft Dodger Mail Slot, you will be faced with an existing hole in your door. Referring to our Measuring Guide will help you determine if the Draft Dodger Mail Slot will fit within your existing hole.
If your existing hole is smaller than the space required to fit a Draft Dodger Mail Slot, this will be an easy fix of increasing the size of the hole using power tools.
However, if your existing hole is larger than the space required, this will be slightly trickier to fix.
This advanced installation can be done on Wood, Fiberglass, Steel and Aluminum doors.
1. Options to consider for your existing hole:
a) Fill existing hole with wood block, or…
b) Cover existing hole with wood/fiberglass/steel/aluminum sheeting, or…
c) Fill existing hole with polyurethane spray foam insulation and trim flush when dry (in some instances, option c may not provide required & necessary security).
2. Cut new hole into whichever above-described material used to cover/fill preexisting hole using the “Cut Out Size” measurements of the product you selected for purchase.
3. Follow normal installation instructions.
