Some of the Frequently Asked Questions to Draft Dodger.
Why is it difficult to insert a single letter through my mail slot?
As a result of the insulating properties of our Draft Dodger mail slots, some features can cause single letter mail (or weaker-structured parcels) to get lodged in the mail slot if not inserted properly.
This is simply due to the privacy brushes which cause resistance and can sometimes cause the envelope to flex and get locked. The letter mail must also pass through the sleeve and exit interior flap which also has closing tension.
First, it is important to ensure that the privacy brushes are set correctly. Please refer to our “Mail Slot Adjustments” video tutorial here.
If you are only receiving a single letter (or weaker-structured parcel), the delivery person must slide their hand partially inside the mail slot to assist the single envelope to pass though the brushes and interior flap.
If the problem has still not been resolved, please feel free to remove the privacy brushes; although, this will affect its insulating and draft preventing properties. Please refer to our “Mail Slot Adjustments” video tutorial here.
How do I select the color of my mail slot?
There are two things to consider when selecting a color for your mail slot: 1) what color is your door and 2) do you have any accessory colors on your door?
Each of these will help you decided which color to select; we recommend matching the color of the frame of your mail slot to your door as best as possible. The color of the flap can match your door, however, a different colored flap can prove to be quite stylish as well.
Both the frame and flaps come in black, silver, gold, and white and can be mix-and-matched. If there is a color combination that you are interested in and do not see it displayed in our product page, please contact us.
My existing hole measurement is larger than the Draft Dodger models exterior dimensions?
If you are replacing a legacy mail slot that was larger than our Draft Dodger mail slot, the existing hole on your door may be too big for the pass-through sleeve. There is still a solution to be able to install the Draft Dodger mail slot, but it will require some more work.
You can refer to our “Advanced Installations – DraftDodger Insulated Mail Slot” video tutorial here. From there you can decide if you are willing to DIY it yourself, or if you would prefer to hire a skilled tradesmen.
The flap on my mail slot is loose/tight or the torsion rods on my mail slot broke, what do I do?

For small quantities of mail slots shipped in Canada, Canada Post is our primary method of shipping. They are usually quite quick, but when shipping to British Columbia, they delay is 2-4 days.
For small quantities of mail slots shipped to the USA, we have a local provider that brings it down to the boarder and then shipped through USPS. This means that when you place your order, you could only see the tracking number activate 5 days after purchasing.
